The Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Occupational Therapy, SRIHER, successfully organized a Continuing Occupational Therapy Education (COTE) programme on the theme “Sporting Injuries” as part of the Hand Therapy Week 2026 celebrations held from 1st to 7th June 2026.
The programme, conducted on 6 June 2026 at the Dental Basement Auditorium, SRIHER, aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of sports-related hand injuries. The event highlighted the crucial role of occupational therapists in helping individuals recover from sprains, fractures, tendon injuries, and other hand-related sporting injuries, thereby enabling them to regain function and return to their sporting activities.
The scientific sessions featured eminent experts from the Department of Hand Surgery, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (SRMC&RI). Dr. Srinivasan Rajappa, Head and Professor, Department of Hand Surgery, delivered a lecture on “Hand Surgery in Sporting Injuries – Restoring Function and Performance”, emphasizing advanced surgical interventions and rehabilitation strategies. Dr. Subashini R., Associate Professor, Department of Hand Surgery, presented on “Evidence-Based Practice in Finger Tip Injuries and Rehabilitation”, highlighting contemporary evidence-based approaches in clinical practice. Dr. B. Nellaiyappan, Associate Professor, Department of Hand Surgery, addressed the topic “Closed Static Traction in PIP Joint Injuries – Defining Its Role”, providing valuable insights into specialized treatment techniques.
The programme provided an excellent platform for students, faculty members, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to gain updated knowledge on the management of sporting injuries and recent advances in hand therapy. Through expert deliberations and interactive discussions, participants enhanced their understanding of evidence-based practices in hand rehabilitation.
The initiative reaffirmed the commitment of the Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Occupational Therapy towards promoting continuing professional education and advancing excellence in occupational therapy practice and rehabilitation sciences.
